Student Testimonies
I give thanks to God because by changing my life, I'm like a mirror to my family. I know that they will believe that God who changed my life is able to change them as well and forgive their sins. My father never believed in the Bible, in the existence of God and Jesus. He never believed in the hereafter life, but yesterday he said he wants Jesus in his life.
Testimony from a WEI teacher
I will always be thankful for the day when I just heard about WEI.  Lola Crouch, my very dear friend, mentioned something about WEI.  I had to ask what it was about.  She explained it, but I told her, "I could never be a teacher--I have been away from English grammar too long to be effective."  She let me know, with no uncertain terms, that I could do it.  Well, I was going to "think about it."  Lola did her work by encouraging me, but God was not going to let me stop at "thinking about it."  I could feel His presence, I could feel His urging, I could almost hear Him saying, "Go for it"!! I am so grateful to be part of the WEI team.  It was a wonderful decision to "go for it"!!  I have met so many wonderful students, I have enjoyed knowing some of the administrators.  I do not have adequate words to tell you and all administrators how much I appreciate your hard work to make WEI a success.  I just thank you for accepting me as part of the team and I want to do a good job of "sowing the seed".   Again, thank you for your outstanding message. May God bless you and Angie,
Teacher Personal Testimony about WEI
“Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” (Matt 28:19) How is that possible? This is my story: Frank and I began our “mission trip” in January of 2018. Through World English Institute (WEI) we have “traveled to Kenya, Myanmar, Malaysia, Brazil, Haiti, Philippines, and Pakistan (just to mention a few places) and met over 300 men and women, teens, and even a few children who wanted to learn English through studying the Bible. Some students state they are Christians, but many are Islamic, Buddhists, or have no religious background at all. We have lots of opportunities to share God’s Word. Not all our students have finished all the courses and stayed with us these past two years, but we have planted seeds and continue to pray God will continue to help them grow. “COVID-19” shut down my world a year ago, but opened up the world to me. This one word phrase was something that affected all humanity and because of it I was able to find common ground to develop deeper relationships with my students. I shared my concerns and life changes, and they shared their stories. We have hurt and prayed for each other throughout the year. My favorite part of the WEI program is building relationships with my students. The more we learn about each other, the easier it is to teach them God’s Word. I thoroughly enjoy writing encouraging notes after each lesson through the WEI website (not my personal email). It’s been rewarding to share my life experiences and my faith through these ongoing conversations. I feel like I have friends all over the world! So many conversations have touched my life: a bride adjusting to married life living with her in-laws, a miscarriage, COVID and the effects of the pandemic, questions they ask as they search for the truth, grandchildren, a run away child, no clean water, illnesses, aging, loss of job, etc. Each topic has allowed me to share my faith and pray for them in a personal way and also helped me grow spiritually. I see God working in all our lives! Teaching is easy!  You don’t have to be an expert in teaching English or the Bible. In fact, I have learned many new things as I have taught my students. The Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced courses have scripted grammar and reading lessons. The WEI computer program grades the grammar lessons and the reading lessons except for 3 – 4 discussion questions that the students are supposed to answer in their own words using their English skills. We correct and make comments on these few questions. I have learned to appreciate how blessed we are in the United States. So many of my students complete their work on their phones.  They do not have computers. Many live in very rural conditions without the medical facilities that we have. Many are well educated and have prestigious jobs and others long to be employed. They are hungry to learn and very appreciative of their teachers. Won’t you consider being part of the WEI and become a teacher? Everyday there are hundreds who are up and want to be taught….. It’s time to begin your mission trip!
New Church in Rwanda
"I would like to let you know that now I have the contact of the church in Rwanda, I hope next week I will join the church. Where I will deeply start new life towards God. And as I promised you I will do the will of the Lord by telling people the truth and explain who is the Lord our savior how great his plan to our salvation. Thanks a lot. Best wishes!!!"

Testimony from a WEI Teacher
Jesslyn Bordine, a WEI Internet teacher from Wimberly, Texas, writes, “I have been telling my church about this wonderful program. I don’t know how I didn’t know about WEI before! The teaching English component is so wonderful!” Jesslyn’s WEI students live in Haiti. One of her students is an interpreter for a Spanish NGO. She says, “This particular young man would complete two lessons before lunch, and if I sent back the grades, he would often do two more lessons in the afternoon. I have several who are very enthusiastic, and some of the responses they give are amazing. I put one on Facebook from time to time hoping my church friends will get hooked.”

Testimony of a Muslim Convert

“Matthew,” a young college student in Yemen, had given up on Islam. Why?  Let’s listen to him as he tells his own story.

“Everyone instinctively needs to love God and to live with love and peace, not with the hatred, fear, and racism of Islam.

“I know how it is to live without faith.  It is like being lost in a stormy, dark ocean and not knowing who to call for help.  But my heart never stopped searching for God.  Then I found you! [his WEI teacher].”

As soon as Matthew read Isaiah’s prophecies of a divine king who would save the world, he knew he was reading something important.  When he read about Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus the Son of God, he wrote, “Some people have great faith.  I wish I could be like them and have the spark that gives people the strength to overcome all the evil in this world.  This spark is from God.”

At this point, his teacher explained how God sent his Son Jesus to deliver us from sin and Satan.  Matthew replied, “Your words were all I needed.  Now I understand it, and I believe it. There is a war with Satan which I intend to win by following the Savior Jesus.

“The Al Qaida and Muslim Brotherhood are everywhere here.  They won’t think twice before killing another Muslim if he doesn’t agree with them.  However, that has nothing to do with me.  I will do the right thing.  They don’t own my heart. How can someone be baptized?”

When his teacher explained to him how to be immersed in baptism, he went to the beach that night, confessed his faith in Jesus, and was baptized for the forgiveness of his sins.

Afterward, he said to his teacher, “I felt an overwhelming sense of peace.  It made me forget all the hardships of life’s road.  It was a great moment, and I will never forget it!”

When he went home from his baptism, his mother sensed that there was something different about him, and she cried.  She had thought he no longer believed in God.  Now she sensed that he did.  He prays that he can convert his mother.

His teacher gave him the Christian name “Matthew” which means “gift of the Lord.”  Matthew said, “I like it.”  Indeed, our new brother in Christ is a gift from God.  He is a young single man attending a university with courage.  We look for great things that this young man will do for the kingdom of God in a hostile environment.

TEACHER TREASURE

ONE YEAR THAT CHANGED MY LIFE IN CHRIST

I recently asked one of our newer and most enthusiastic WEI teachers to write an article describing his WEI teaching experience. Although he really did not want the attention, I knew his story would be a compelling reason for other potential teachers to register and give it a try.

I know Dick Towell’s testimony is not unlike many others who have found sharing the word of God and their faith to be a very meaningful experience in their Christian walk and service. I think you will find what Brother Dick Towell has written below to be inspiring.

Thank you, Brother Towell. We love and appreciate you and all our WEI volunteer teachers who truly are WEI treasures.

Thoughts of Dick Towell, youngest brother of Bob & Jan Towell, WEI leaders

February 16, 2021

Raised in a Christian home as a preacher’s kid has given me incredible advantages.

76 years of age, being a disciple of Christ for 65 years, raising a family of five, retiring from a 55-year business and healthcare career, and being widowed in 2018, I wondered how I would finish out my “earth time”? What would be next? Would there be a new purpose? YES!

My sister-in-law started me teaching with World English Institute. Thank you, Jan!

Having time during the pandemic of 2020-21, I have “claimed” 484 “potential students” and found around 200 “real” students. Today I am blessed to have 52 “real” students who are submitting lessons within seven days. I am regularly reminded that I am just a seed planter – just a fisherman when a student I have placed on my hidden student list reappears and becomes a “real” student. God gives the increase. What JOY! And I have experienced results – results for so many students and results for me!

Sharing Jesus every day, multiple times a day, around the world through World English Institute is such a fulfilling experience. This is not hard work nor does it require exceptional skill or profound Bible knowledge. The WEI lessons do 98% of the teaching. The internet takes me to faraway places and peoples. The internet takes me to the USA and my own region discovering people who start with wanting English language skills and soon are thirsting for a relationship with God.

This work has enriched and changed who I am. I am so much closer to God as my “earth time” journey closes. With excitement, I see God at work every day. Daily I help proclaim the Good News joyfully and expectantly through the World English Institute! What JOY seeing God work in the lives of so many people as they study English and the Bible.

God changes lives, even mine as I serve Him. I find students teaching me as they discover God’s plan of salvation for their lives. I am blessed. I am humbled. I rejoice in my own relationship with God.

The past year is “one year that changed my life in Christ.” God is near. I know this because he has changed me! He can change you too! Be a WEI teacher and see for yourself.

INTRODUCING DARRELL WALLACE

WEI Director of Teacher Recruitment and Training

I began preaching in 1989 and became actively involved with several international short-term mission efforts. In 2004, my wife, Robin, and I were invited to Athens, Greece where I worked with Sunset International Bible Institute as an instructor and interim director at one of SIBI’s international branch schools. We returned home in November 2005.

It was in 2008 that I met Tom Langley and was introduced to WEI. But soon after, I was recruited again by SIBI to serve as their field representative for the satellite school program. Following my involvement with this ministry, I served as one of the elders of the Three Forks Church of Christ in Smiths Grove, KY for five years and became committed to WEI as a teacher.

I began preaching again full-time in 2017. In January of this year, I accepted the invitation to become Director of Teacher Recruitment and Training with WEI.

There have been three major global evangelistic movements in the history of God’s kingdom; Pentecost, the Restoration Movement, and Post-WWII world evangelism. We are now in the fourth major movement, Internet Global Evangelism.

WEI is capable of reaching more people world-wide than there are teachers available. As I am writing this, there are 156 students awaiting adoption by teachers. Of the 156, 57 are Muslims.

WEI is penetrating Islamic nations because it offers English grammar studies, even though the Bible is used as the text. Back in the fall of 2018, I began accepting Muslim students almost exclusively. It has been most rewarding.

Just this morning, one of my Muslim students made a stunning confession. He was asked the question, “What do you think about Jesus?” His reply was, “He is God, the Son of God.” That’s why I am a WEI teacher. Now, I am hoping he will take the next step to be baptized into Christ.

WEI STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

The following story of a student named Amara is shared with us by his WEI teacher, Darrell Wallace.
Amara came to the Restoration Bible and Agriculture Institute, a school-sponsored by churches of Christ, intending to learn about agriculture. Being Muslim, he became curious about Jesus.

He studied with brother Isaac Daye, a local gospel preacher. Amara became more and more passionate about Christ as he studied. He was baptized into Christ and renounced Islam.

After Isaac Daye baptized him, Amara went home to see his family share the good news. But his parents disowned him as their son, burned all of his clothing and possessions, and sought to kill him. Amara had to flee from his home and family.

Even though he became homeless, he was still zealous for Christ. None of his hardships deterred him from his passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus. Amara’s plan is to teach Muslims and tell them the story of Jesus. In 2019 while attending a mission workshop, I met the director of Darrell Memorial Bible Institute, a SIBI branch school in Nigeria. I learned that he knew Amara and was needing funds for him and his wife to attend the school.

I shared his need with my congregation. The church responded overwhelmingly. But COVID stopped all travel to and from Nigeria the following month. Amara and his family have been waiting to travel since then. In the meantime, I have been studying with Amara through WEI. He is growing in faith, preaching, leading a youth group, and mentoring others to take his place when he leaves.1

W.E.I. NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE!

More and more national preachers around the world are using WEI
courses in their local outreach ministries. National preachers are our
most efficient and productive partners in world evangelism.
Additional funds for printing and mailing these materials are needed.
