As we have reported in previous Updates, Bob Patterson has developed an excellent web site that invites people all over the world to study WEI courses via the Internet. Bob and Jan Towell take the students who respond and either teach them or assign them to other Internet teachers.
Bob Towell wrote the following article for the Westside church bulletin in Round Rock, Texas:
“The performance of World English Institute’s web site in Bible studies via E-mail remained about the same in 2002 as it was in 2001. Like World Bible School, WEI is a Bible correspondence course, but it has the added feature of helping students improve their English while they study the Bible. Many people in the world want to improve their English, and WEI takes advantage of this desire and teaches God’s Word as well.
“Two thousand four hundred and thirty-four people have registered at www.weiady.org since the site opened in July 1998. These people live in 127 of the world’s 192 countries.
“In spite of increased competition, the effectiveness of the web site remained about the same in 2002, and the percentage of those starting Bible studies remained at about 40 %. That is equivalent to knocking on doors in our neighborhoods and starting Bible studies in 4 out of 10 doors!
“To meet the challenge of competing web sites in 2003, volunteers are attempting to create an additional web site that presents audio with a simultaneous display of the written Bible lesson. This will allow the students to hear spoken English while mastering the grammar. Some of these students will be “good soil” in which God’s word takes root and grows.
“If you are interested in teaching with WEI via E-mail, you may register as a teacher at the web site, www.weiady.org. WEI is also taught by snail mail.”
