November 28, 2010
These are exciting and challenging times. In 2010, the Lord used WEI to teach people about Christ in EVERY nation on earth. But as Tom Langley said, “WEI has reached every country in the world, but not every soul. There is much yet to be done.”
Almost every day, Jan Towell sends out a list of Internet students who are waiting for teachers. Many of these students are Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims. What an opportunity to spread the gospel of Christ!
These are the best of times for world evangelism. Never before have God’s people had the tools to reach so many people in so many places with the gospel of Christ. We must not let this opportunity slip away!
The year 2010 was also a challenging time for WEI financially. Our faith was tested. As of August 31, 2010, the WEI General Fund in Gresham was $38,000 in the red. Then, Justin Speer and the church in Katy, TX sponsored a fund-raising dinner in Houston and put WEI in their church budget. Moreover, the College congregation in Searcy, AR included WEI in its annual Harvest Sunday contribution. Then, many of our dear friends contributed generously during the last quarter of the year. Consequently, we ended 2010 in the black. Hallelujah!
In 2011, we still face a financial challenge. Last year, we lost more than $4,000 a month in regular contributions due to the economic crisis in America. New contributors have picked up about half of that loss, and our hearts are filled with gratitude. But we still need an additional $2,000 a month to keep this mission work going full steam ahead.
The Peninsula church in Portland, OR is planning a fund-raising dinner April 1. We are praying that other churches will follow the Katy church’s lead by sponsoring a fund-raising dinner and by putting WEI in their budget.
Thank you, beloved friends. Many of you have given until it hurt, and we are grateful. May God bless you with an extra star in your crown. We love you with the love of God.
